At First Covenant Church, we believe that children are essential to our worship and fellowship. We offer programming on Sunday mornings and on special days throughout the year specifically geared towards the spiritual development of our children.
Sunday Morning Worship at 10:00 am
Children and youth begin the worship services with their families in the Sanctuary.
After the Children’s Message, about a third of the way through the service, they are invited to:
Nursery (Birth - 3 years) The nursery provides safe, welcoming, play-based care for young children. The Nursery is open the entire worship service and parents can choose to drop off their children before the service begins or after the Children’s Message.
Children’s Church (4 years - 3rd grade) At Children’s Church in the Red Chapel, kids will learn about God’s love for them as they respond to the Children’s Message and readings of the day through song, reflection, creativity, and laughter.
Voyagers (4th - 8th grades) At Voyagers, youth are invited to engage in God’s story through interactive lessons and guided conversations. Voyagers is only the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. The other weeks, youth remain in the Sanctuary for Worship.
High Schoolers have the opportunity to respond to their developing faith by participating in Worship and serving in a variety of ways. High schoolers can serve in the Nursery, Choir, String Band, AV team, or as Scripture Readers. Those in the Confirmation class also serve as Acolytes.

MIDDLE SCHOOL and HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH
For our tweens and teens, we mix fun activities, Christian discussions, and community outreach to deepen relationships and provide opportunities for spiritual growth. New friends are always welcome.
The First Cov Youth Ministry Team coordinates quarterly activities for our youth. In the fall, we join with other churches from across the Pacific Northwest to attend our conference’s youth retreats, Thunder and Mud, at Cascades Camp & Conference Center. Winter and Spring activities vary but have recently included snowshoeing excursions, church lock-ins, escape rooms, iFly adventures, and service trips to our partner organization, Circlewood. In the summer, many of our young people attend camp at Cascades. And every three years, we join with youth from across the entire country at UNITE, a weeklong youth conference organized by the Covenant denomination.
Throughout the year, youth also participate in many intergenerational events like serving at our Saturday morning community breakfast and First Friday Family Fun Nights, which are full of games, music, and snacks. Interested middle and high schoolers can also join the First Friday RPG (role playing games) group.
Prayer Partners
The Prayer Partner ministry helps to nurture the faith walk of the children in the church. Every child in the church is paired with an adult who will faithfully pray for that child. Once a year there is a Prayer Partner Brunch after worship, where the child and their prayer partner get a chance to sit down together to share and build upon that relationship. Many of these Prayer Partner relationships have fostered into true friendships between the generations.
