Women & Faith Event
Saturday, May 5 at 7 pm - SANCTUARY
Women today are breaking glass ceilings, running for office (and winning!) at unprecedented levels, marching in the streets, and making significant waves with movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp. At the same time, there are renewed attacks on women's rights, including by religious groups. So do the Abrahamic faith traditions limit or empower women's rights? How do people of faith support women's liberation? And what does Islam actually teach about women's rights? Join us to explore these questions and more in a rare in-depth conversation with female faith leaders of the Muslim, Christian and Jewish traditions.
The program will include presentations about the role and status of women in Judaism (by Rabbi Yohanna Kinberg of Congregation Kol Ami), Christianity (by Pastor Ellie VerGowe of First Covenant Church), and Islam (by Aneelah Afzali, Esq., Executive Director of MAPS-AMEN (American Muslim Empowerment Network)). The speakers will also ask each other questions and engage in a lively conversation, followed by Q&A with the audience. This will be an opportunity for a healthy dialogue and important reflection on the reality and role of religion in our lives today as it intersects with women's liberation. You won't want to miss it!
