Director of Children and Youth Ministries (part time)

The Director of Children & Youth Ministries of First Covenant Church provides leadership, strategic direction and coordinates volunteers for the overall children’s and youth ministry program of the church. The director works in cooperation with the staff of First Covenant and receives guidance and support from the Nurture Faith administrative team and a variety of volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Is a confessing Christian and an active participant in the Christian life and worship of the church, displaying a commitment to the church’s overall mission
  • Demonstrates genuine care for the body of the church, including having good interpersonal skills, eagerness to work on a team
  • Able to motivate, inspire, and establish a rapport with the children, youth, and families of First Covenant, as well as being attentive and sensitive to relevant information shared by parents, guardians, prayer partners and other caregivers
  • Has a theologically grounded understanding of children and youth Christian education, including some coursework in these areas
  • Excellent communication skills, able to manage multiple volunteers and vary volunteer assignments as required
  • Able to exercise initiative and judgment when working independently
  • Willing and able to pass a background check and receive training in child protection best practices

Hours:
20 hours per week

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Oversight (60%)

  • Lead children’s and youth programs for Sunday School, worship, and youth ministry programs – organize programs, coordinate volunteers, and prepare materials
  • Communicate with all volunteers, teachers, assistants, parents and the church at large regarding Nurture Faith activities through email reminders, FYI emails, bulletins, announcements and other means
  • Provide curriculum oversight and coordination for children’s and youth programs – help with research into curriculum, best practices, and assist with analysis of First Covenant’s Nurture Faith needs
  • Oversee and ensure Child Protection program compliance; work with Nurture Faith team to get all volunteers who work with children through background checks

Administrative (30%)

  • Manage the physical spaces and supplies used by Nurture Faith activities in collaboration with the Nurture Faith administrative team
  • Plan and coordinate monthly events and retreats for the junior/senior high youth
  • Assist with the annual budget for children and youth ministries in cooperation with the Nurture Faith administrative team
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and intermittent Nurture Faith administrative team meetings as available

General (10%)

  • Stay current with youth ministry practices by reading, attending youth leadership conferences, etc
  • Network with other local youth leaders and Capitol Hill community neighbors, as well as PacNW conference to support youth inside and outside of the church
  • Network with Cascades and other Covenant camps to encourage First Covenant youth participation in available programs
